Mari Venturino is a third year teacher at Mar Vista Academy in the Sweetwater Union High School District where she teaches 7th grade life science and health. She completed her B.S. in General Biology at the University of California, San Diego in 2011, and continued on to earn a Master of Education in Secondary Education in 2012. With her passion for technology, she has provided professional development to her staff in areas such as the online learning management system Canvas, iMovie, and effective iPad integration in the classroom. She strives to make iPads more accessible to teachers, parents, and students who are not yet comfortable with the technology. Currently, Mari is working toward a certificate in Teaching Online from UCSD Extension, with the hopes of further integrating technology into her classroom. Her goals are to effectively use technology with the Next Generation Science Standards, and to prepare students for an education that extends beyond the face-to-face classroom. Mari presented at the 2014 iPad Summit, and 2014 Spring CUE conference, while also holding professional development for teachers throughout the Sweetwater UHSD.

Alicia Johal is a second year teacher at Mar Vista Academy in the Sweetwater Union High School District. She teaches 7th Grade AVID, 8th grade Accelerated and General Science. Alicia is an Apple Foundations Trainer and works to provide valuable workshops for her colleagues. She completed her undergraduate coursework at the University of California San Diego, studying Biology. In 2013, she completed her science teaching credential and Master of Education in Teaching Leadership. Alicia is passionate about problem and project based learning to create meaningful connections for her students in the classroom. She works hard to create hands on lessons to appeal to all learners, while heightening their artistic skills and creativity within technology. Her goal as a teacher is to inspire and innovate students, while improving critical thinking skills. She has spent a significant amount of time studying curriculum for Common Core and the Next Generation Science Standards and is excited to further her experience by using literacy, technology, and STEM strategies in the classroom. Alicia presented at the 2014 iPad Summit, and 2014 Spring CUE conference, while also holding professional development for teachers throughout the Sweetwater UHSD.
